Holder ruled out, Brathwaite to lead Windies in Bangladesh tour
West Indies tour of Bangladesh: Holder has a partial thickness tear on his right shoulder, which could become a full tear, forcing him to undergo a surgery if he carries on bowling in Bangladesh.
Kraigg Brathwaite will lead West Indies against Bangladesh after it was confirmed that regular captain Jason Holder was ruled out of the tour with a shoulder injury.
Holder has a partial thickness tear on his right shoulder, which could become a full tear, forcing him to undergo a surgery if he carries on bowling in Bangladesh. "The medical panel was concerned that if Jason was to bowl in Bangladesh, the partial tear may become a full tear which may involve the need for surgery and/or a significant break from cricket," Johnny Grave, the CWI chief executive told BCAcricket.org.
Holder was battling pain in the India series on the same shoulder which had been troubling him since the World Cup Qualifiers in March. The injury even kept him out of the first Test against India.
"I've been having issues with my shoulder since the World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe in March. Since then I have been trying to manage it and the pain levels, but it has got to a point now where I've got to take time to correct it so that going forward I have no further issues.
The captain expressed his disappointments on missing out on the Bangladesh tour. Obviously, I am disappointed to miss the tour but I know the boys are capable of beating Bangladesh. But based on the advice from the medical team, we felt this was the best course of action to deal with the ongoing issues I have been having with my shoulder and prevent further damage," Holder said.
10 members of the West Indian Test squad arrived in Chittagong Wednesday for the two-Test series starting on November 21 while the rest of the squad is scheduled to arrive in three groups on Thursday.
West Indies will play a two-day warm-up game before the Test series begins.
