Among the highlights of India's squads for the Sri Lanka series, Suryakumar Yadav has been trusted to be India's T20I captain ahead of Hardik Pandya who was Rohit's deputy in their victorious ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. In addition, Ravindra Jadeja was not selected for the ODIs despite him having only given up the T20I format. Shubman Gill was appointed vice-captain of both the formats.
There were a few notable omissions too with Abhishek Sharma not finding his name in the T20I squad despite having scored a century in the Zimbabwe series. In addition after being benched for the entire T20 World Cup in USA and West Indies, Yuzvendra Chahal did not find his name in the T20I squad for the Sri Lanka tour. Among the inclusions, Harshit Rana's name in the ODI setup grabbed eyeballs. Gambhir is expected to answer his selection choices in this press conference.
