Gautam Gambhir was re-appointed as the captain of Delhi as the Delhi and District Cricket Association announced a 15-man squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy slated to begin from September 19.

Gamhir, who stood down from captaincy last year citing his differences with the management, returned at the helm after a change of guard at DDCA with Rajat Sharma taking over as the President. Talented right-handed batsman Dhruv Shorey was rewarded for his consistent performance in the Duleep Trophy and was appointed as the vice-captain of Delhi

Gambhir will replace Pradeep Sangwan, who was ruled out of the entire domestic season with an injury. The 15-man squad also includes India’s Test wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant, who will have another opportunity to impress the selectors after being ignored for the Asia Cup.

The batting will depend on Gambhir, Pant, Shorey and Nitish Rana, while the bowling attack will be led by Navdeep Saini and Kulwant Khejroliya.

All-rounder Manan Sharma and Pawan Negi will lead the spin department along with leggie Lalit Yadav.

Delhi, placed in Group B, will start-off their campaign on September 20 against Saurashtra.

Squad: Gautam Gambhir (C), Dhurv Shorey (vc), Rishabh Pant (wk), Nitish Rana, Unmukht Chand, Himmat Singh, Hiten Dalal, Lalit Yadav, Manan Sharma, Pawan Negi, Kulwant Khejroliya, Gaurav Kumar, Simranjeet Singh, Pranshu Vijayran.
