England Shouldn't Play Broad, Anderson Together: Vaughan

Michael Vaughan believes that Broad and Anderson should not play together in the future leading up to the Ashes series in Australia in 2020-21

England's senior fast bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad have been prolific performers for England in the last decade. The mere presence of the duo in the English bowling attack makes opposition batsmen nervous and bring their best on the field. However, former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that Broad and Anderson should not play together in the future leading up to the Ashes series in Australia in 2020-21. While Broad (23 wickets at 26.65) had an outstanding Ashes campaign, becoming the first English bowler to take 20+ wickets in four Ashes series, Anderson could bowl only four overs in the opening Test at Edgbaston before being ruled out of the five-match series. "I don't think it's right that both of them play now," said Vaughan talking to BBC Sport. "It might be that Broad plays one series and Anderson plays one series. "They are not going to like it, but they are at that stage of their careers where England are going to have to manage the combination very smartly," he added. After Broad, it was young speedster Jofra Archer who impressed everyone with his skills as he became the first England bowler to take two 6 wicket hauls in the same Ashes series since Ian Botham in 1981. England vice-captain Ben Stokes has also said that Archer can help them regain the Ashes in Australia. England will now travel to New Zealand for five T20Is and two Test matches in late October.
