Eng vs Pak 1st Test, Day 2: England Bowlers Shine; Pakistan Reel At 187/5 At Lunch

England bowlers set the tone by picking three wickets in today's morning session. The English bowlers completely dominated the visitors who managed to add just 48 runs for three wickets. At Lunch, Pakistan were 187/5 on Day 2 of the first Test at the Old Trafford cricket ground in Manchester. The rain stopped Day one's play after Pakistan batters batted brilliantly against a quality English pace attack despite the loss of two fairly quick wickets. Babar Azam scored 69 runs on opening day and shared an unbeaten 96-run stand with Shan Masood (46 batting). England could not have asked for a better start to Day 2 as veteran James Anderson departed Babar for 69 in his very first over, not allowing the young sensational batsman to add some runs to his overnight score and denied him a ton. Babar edged Anderson's delivery and Root completed a safe catch standing at the slips. Asad Shafiq was the next batsman to the crease. Just a few balls after Babar's dismissal, 'patient' Shan Masood attained his fifty after surviving a scare in the very same over he got his half-century. Just when it seemed that the Pakistan cricket team were starting to gain control, England's most successful fast-bowler Stuart Broad came up with a major breakthrough. The speedster removed Asad Shafiq for 7. With this, Pakistan lost two of the most talented batsmen in quick successions. Shan Masood was now joined by wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan in the middle. Rizwan is a batsman who is known for his fighting spirit but the consistent line and length from the English bowlers made it tough for him to get off the mark as he scored his first run after facing 41 dot balls. The pressure again got the better of Pakistan batters and this time it was Rizwan who had to make his way back to the pavilion. Chris Woakes removed the wicket-keeper batsman for 9. With this, Pakistan were 5 down and team England were now in the driver's seat. All-rounder Shadab Khan was the next man to the crease.
