Dwayne Bravo hits 5 consecutive sixes, misses record by a whisker

Dwayne Bravo missed the six sixes in an over record by a whisker after he hit Alzarri Joseph for five consecutive sixes in a Caribbean Premiere League match between Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

Coming in to bat at no.6 after the fall of Brendon McCullum, the Knight Riders captain, Bravo, played a blistering inning that propelled his team to 199 for 4, batting first, which proved to be too much as they stormed to the top of the table with a 46–run victory.

Bravo took apart Alzarri Joseph, who till then had given only 13 runs in his 3 overs, picking up the wickets of Sunil Narin and Brendon McCullum. Joseph’s last over went for 30 as Bravo displayed why he is still regarded as one of the best players of the shortest format.

Joseph started the 19th over with a dot ball but when it finished, Bravo had almost become the first West Indian to hit six sixes in an over. Bravo heaved, sliced and used his brute force to hit Joseph for five consecutive sixes into all parts of the ground.

The TKR captain raced to 37 off 11 balls with one over still to play However, the all-rounder failed to add to his score as he did not get the strike in the final in which New Zealand batsman Colin Munro took 18 runs.

Munro was the top-scorer of the innings with 16 off 50 balls but Bravo’s blitz was easily the highlight of the innings.

In reply, the Patriots could only manage 153 for 8 and Bravo did a fine job of containing the batsman in his four-over spell which yielded only 26 runs with one wicket to his name.
