David Warner's International Career Ends On Bitter Note As Australia Fail to Secure Semis Berth In T20 World Cup 2024

David Warner Retires: The Australian batter had already announced that he would be hanging his boots after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup.

David Warner Retires: David Warner, one of the greatest batters in international cricket of contemporary times, will not get a fairytale end to his international career. Afghanistan's win over Bangladesh in the last Super 8 clash of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 has confirmed Australia's exit from the tournament which has meant a bitter end to Warner's cricket career at the highest level.

After Australia's defeat to the Afghanistan and India, they needed Bangladesh to beat the Afghans to proceed to the knockout stage of the competition. The Bangla Tigers did put on a fight but Rashid Khan & Co. held on to their nerves and did not let Bangladesh come in the way of a semifinal, bowling them out for 105 after putting on 115/5 and winning the match by 8 runs to storm into the semifinals.

That meant Australia would be flying home and Warner won't be playing a match again in Australian colours. Although he had hinted that he could be back for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 which will be played next year, that seems unlikely.

Australia Will Miss David Warner Around The Group: Josh Hazelwood

"We'll definitely miss him around the group, out in the field and off field," Australia pacer Josh Hazelwood had said after Australia lost to India and had to hope for a Bangladesh win.

"(An) amazing all-format career. It's sort of been a slow burn with Test cricket and ODI cricket and now T20. So, life without him, we've sort of gotten used to it a little bit ... it's always different when you lose a player that's been there for so long," he added.

Warner bid adieu having played 112 Tests, 161 ODIs and 110 T20Is in which he accumulated 8786, 6932 and 3277 runs respectively.
