The Dutch international cricketer had to take up a job with the food delivery service as the Covid-19 pandemic led to the postponement of the 2020 World T20 and suspension of many domestic and national tournaments. “Should’ve been playing cricket today now I’m delivering Uber eats to get through the winter months!! Funny how things change hahaha keep smiling people,” posted Paul van Meekeren on his social media handle. If the Covid-19 pandemic has not broken out early in 2020, Paul van Meekeren would have been doning the Orange Jersey for Netherlands at the ICC World T20, scheduled to be held in Oct-Nov in Australia. Netherlands along with Papua New Guinea, Ireland, Scotland, Namibia, and Oman were the six teams that had qualified for ICC World T20 World Cup, besides the top 10 T20 nations (as per the ICC Rankings deadline). Paul van Meekeren made his maiden appearance for the Netherlands team against Kenya in a T20 international game in 2013. Paul has represented his nation in five ODIs and 41 T20Is and picked up four and 47 wickets respectively. He also represented Somerset in County cricket. He is one of the important players for his national team’s success so far. Pieter Seelaar-led Netherlands will compete in the 2021 ICC World T20, scheduled to be played in India and will be play the party spoilers to the fortunes of some of the more established and big teams in the shortest format of the game.
