Chris Gayle creates another T20 World Record

The Universe Boss, who already holds the record of most runs (12,075), most sixes(891) and most centuries (21) record in T20s, on Monday became the first cricketer to play in 10 different T20 leagues with the latest one being South Africa’s franchise-based T20 league the Mzansi Super League.

Returning to the cricket field for the first time after his mother’s demise, Chris Gayle again rewrote the record books in the ongoing Mzansi Super League in South Africa.

The Universe Boss, who already holds the record of most runs (12,075), most sixes(891) and most centuries (21) record in T20s, on Monday became the first cricketer to play in 10 different T20 leagues with the latest one being South Africa’s franchise-based T20 league the Mzansi Super League.

Gayle, who has played in pretty much all the sanctioned T20 leagues across the globe is representing the Jozi Stars in the inaugural edition of Mzansi Super League.

Gayle has now played in the Afghanistan Premier League (Balkh Legends), Mzansi Super League (Jozi Stars), Caribbean Premier League (Jamaica Tallawahs, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots), Indian Premier League (Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab), Pakistan Super League ( Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings), Big Bash League (Sydney Thunders and Melbourne Renegades), Ram Slam T20 (Highveld Lions), Vitality Blast (Somerset), Bangladesh Premier League (Barisal Bulls, Dhaka Gladiators, Chittagong Vikings and Rangpur Riders), and Global T20 Canada (Vancouver Knights).

On his MSL debut, Gayle scored 23 off 19 balls but his team lost to Nelson Mandela Bay Giants by five wickets.

With two wins in two matches, the Cape Town Blitz is currently on top of the MSL standings. Gayle’s franchise, Jozi Stars is at the bottom because of their heavy defeat in the opening match.

Six franchises – Cape Town Blitz, Durban Heat, Jozi Stars, Nelson Mandela Bay Giants, Paarl Rocks and Tshawne Spartans – will play in a round-robin format and the final will be played on December 16.
