Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara showcased his prowess in domestic cricket following his exclusion from the national Test squad for the South Africa series. Despite Saurashtra's low total of 144 runs, the 35-year-old exhibited his resilience by scoring an unbeaten 55 off 114 deliveries. Facing a challenging Alur pitch that favoured the bowlers significantly, Pujara arrived at the crease at No. 4 when Saurashtra was struggling at 7 for 2. Displaying grit, he emerged as the sole standout player, notching his 34th fifty in List A cricket.

Despite his commendable performance, Pujara's exclusion from India's Test squad for the upcoming South Africa tour has raised doubts about his future in international cricket. His last appearance for India dates back to the 2023 ICC World Test Championship final against Australia. As young talents like Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill gain prominence, Pujara's return to the national team appears increasingly uncertain.

Having accumulated 7,195 runs in 103 Tests at an average of 43.60, including 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries, Pujara's tenure in international cricket might be coming to a close due to the evolving cricket landscape and the emergence of fresh talents.
