Best and proudest period of my career as England captain: Eoin Morgan

Morgan praised the performances of Bairstow, Hales and Roy stating that the team is lucky to have them

After a blockbuster victory against Australia, England skipper Eoin Morgan has called this feat as the best of his career as England captain.

England not only registered their biggest ever win in ODIs but made the Australians taste defeat by 242 runs which is eventually their 14th loss in the last 16 completed ODIs. Moreover, this was also Australia's heaviest defeat at this level, in terms of runs, surpassing a 206-run loss to New Zealand in Adelaide in 1986.

After the match, a happy Captain Morgan said, “The best performance by a stretch, I think. The last three years are probably more special than the other guys are feeling now. We've been very lucky with the group of players that we've had. Certainly, this is the best period of my career. And the proudest as well.”

Morgan was pleased by the performances of the Jonny Bairstow (139), Alex Hales (147) and Jason Roy (82). He also went on to express that he hopes they continue their forms in the rest two games as England undoubtedly targets a white wash.

“They are operating at a level and strike rate the team want them to operate at. They stick to our mantra and are a huge asset to have. It's great they are in our side and there are now two more opportunities for them to score big runs. Hopefully they will continue to be as hungry,” said Morgan after the game.

Morgan may not have a century beside him, but he broke a bunch of records during his 30-ball 67-run innings. The English skipper scored the fastest fifty by an Englishman when he reached the milestone off 21 balls. He also became the all-time highest run scorer for England in ODI cricket, surpassing Ian Bell’s score of 5416.

“To pass someone like Ian Bell, who has been around a very long time is something that is satisfying. The rate at which I struck it today, you have to. Everybody in the changing room strikes it at that, if not more. It's definitely a young man's game,” said Morgan on bettering Bell’s tally.
