According to The Guardian, over a month after the incident, Stokes and his mother, Deborah have filed proceedings against The Sun for invasion of privacy and recalling the tragic past that had been long forgotten.

English all-rounder Ben Stokes and his mother have reportedly taken legal action action against a United Kingdom newspaper that published sensitive information about the cricketer's family. English news daily, The Sun, had published a front-page story headlined Stokes’ Secret Tragedy that revealed that Stokes' half-brother and sister were shot dead by his mother’s ex-partner in New Zealand, three years before he was born. According to The Guardian, over a month after the incident, Stokes and his mother, Deborah have filed proceedings against The Sun for invasion of privacy and recalling the tragic past that had been long forgotten. However, The Guardian has mentioned that it is unclear whether papers have been formally served on the Sun’s publisher, News Group Newspapers, which is part of Rupert Murdoch’s media empire. When The Sun leaked personal information about Stokes' family, the crickter took to his social media accounts to post a message slamming the news article. Stokes also called the story the lowest form of journalism, focused only on chasing sales with absolutely no regard for the devastation caused to lives as a consequence.
