BCCI AGM 2020 Highlights: Many important decisions were taken in BCCI's 89thAnnual General Meeting (AGM) held in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Apart from IPL, future of domestic cricketers and distribution of relief packages for them was also discussed in this meeting.
According to reports, Adani Group and Sanjeev Goenka are ahead in the race to buy new IPL teams. One of the new teams in the IPL may be from Ahmedabad, which the Adani Group has already expressed its intention to buy.
In 2022, when the cash-rich tournament will be a 10-team affair, then their format may also change. Currently, the IPL follows a round robin format in which each team competes with each other 2–2 times and the 4 teams with the most points play the qualifiers. But with 10 teams, the format is likely to be different as it is being assumed that the management will most likely divide the 10 teams into two groups. However, there has been no official confirmation about this.

Another major development is that BCCI has decided to back ICC's bid for cricket's inclusion in 2028 Los Angeles Olympics after some clarifications from International Olympics Committee (IOC).
BCCI AGM: All first-class players to be compensated for the loss caused due to curtailed domestic season amid Covid pandemic
Many important decisions were taken in BCCI's 89thAnnual General Meeting (AGM) held in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Apart from IPL, future of domestic cricketers and distribution of relief packages for them was also discussed in this meeting.
Due to Coronavirus, BCCI has faced many challenges in organizing the domestic season. However, BCCI has now decided that it will save the players from financial troubles. The board has decided that all first-class players, both men and women, will be compensated for the loss caused due to the curtailed domestic season amid Covid pandemic.
The BCCI had recently released the schedule of Syed Mushtaq Trophy to be held next year. According to a report in Times of India, if Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy is canceled or postponed due to Coronavirus pandemic, then the players will be compensated for the loss. For this, BCCI will prepare a separate relief package. With this, the BCCI has increased the insurance cover of domestic cricketers from 5 lakhs to 10 lakhs.
Rajiv Shukla elected unopposed as BCCI's new Vice President
Veteran Congress leader Rajiv Shukla has been elected unopposed as BCCI's new Vice President in 89th Annual General Meeting (AGM). Rajiv Shukla has also been the former chairman of Indian Premier League (IPL) and President of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association in year 2017. With Rajiv Shukla's appointment as the vice-president, BCCI Boss Ganguly will now be supported by a veteran who has served as vice-president during N Srinivasan's tenure. Shukla's name had been proposed by DDCA President Rohan Jaitley and Uttarakhand's Mahim Verma, who vacated the post earlier this year.
Ahead of AGM, BCCI official KV Rao, who looked after domestic cricket, resigned saying that he had quit his post at the behest of the BCCI. Rao himself informed about this by writing an email and also thanked BCCI for giving him the opportunity to serve. In this mail, he alleged that he has been asked by the BCCI to quit, after which he had submitted his resignation to the board.
BCCI AGM: Other Major Decisions
Board Secretary Jai Shah and Treasurer Arun Dhumal will hold a discussion with the Government of India to provide tax exemption to the ICC for the T20 World Cup to be held in India in October 2021 and the ODI World Cup in 2023.
A marketing committee will be set up to deal with the issue of conflict of interest in the board, which will monitor matters of conflict of interest due to the sponsorship deal of the board.
