Bangladesh equal 129-year-old unwanted record helping Roach surpass Waqar Younis

Bangladesh's registered their lowest-ever total in whites, eclipsing their previous lowest—62 against Sri Lanka in 2007

Shakib Al Hasan and his men might not have this idea that the beginning of their West Indies tour would be no less than a nightmare. The first West Indies vs Bangladesh Test match turned out to be a historic event after the guests did something which happened in Test cricket after 44 long years.

After losing the toss, Bangladesh were put to bat first. Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das stepped in to open the innings and went off the mark decently. Everything looked almost normal as they added 10 runs within first five overs. But the West Indies bowling unit seemed to have come prepared with some other plan.

Kemar Roach drew the first blood in the last ball of the fifth over and sent Iqbal packing to the dressing room. Well, that was just the beginning and with a flash of time, the entire Bangladesh batters were back to pavilion. They couldn’t even survive till lunch break as they were all-out for 43 in just 18.4 overs. Roach picked up 5 wickets in 12 balls.

And thus, a new chapter was introduced in the history of the gentlemen’s game.

Bangladesh's registered their lowest-ever total in whites, eclipsing their previous lowest—62 against Sri Lanka in 2007. Moreover, it is the 10th-lowest total of all time and also, the lowest in the Caribbean.

Kemar Roach led the demolition of Bangladesh with a five-wicket haul. His magical bowling figures of 5/8 off 5 overs turned out to be the 3rd-fastest to a five-wicket haul in Test cricket. He picked up all the five scalps in just 12 deliveries, surpassing legendary Pakistani spearhead and former skipper, Waqar Younis.

Apart from being their lowest Test innings total and lowest for any team in Test cricket in the Caribbean, it was also the second shortest first innings of a Test match—18.4 overs - in the game's 141-year history, bettering by just one delivery Australia's dismissal for 60 off 18.3 overs by England at Nottingham in 2015.

By stumps the West Indies top-order had built on that dominant bowling effort in reaching 201 for two, a lead already of 158 runs with eight wickets in hand.
