Australia vs West Indies: Spectator Left Bleeding In Crowd After Sean Abbott's Six Hits Him In Face
An attempt to make a crowd catch during Australia's second ODI against the West Indies turned disastrous as a spectator bore the full impact of a Sean Abbott six to the face.
Australia secured an 83-run victory against the West Indies on February 4 (Sunday) in the second match of their three-match ODI series. Following a challenging start after losing the toss and being asked to bat, Australia found themselves struggling at 142-6 in 28.1 overs. However, it was the bowling all-rounder Sean Abbott who played a crucial role, contributing a notable 69-run innings to rescue the team. A poignant moment unfolded during the match when Abbott hit a six off Romario Shepherd, and the ball struck a spectator in the stands, causing an injury to his face and visible bleeding.
During Sean Abbott's powerful slog sweep for a six, a spectator in the crowd stood with his hands raised, anticipating making a crowd catch, while his friends looked on, ready to celebrate enthusiastically. This incident unfolded in the 46th over of the innings when Romario Shepherd delivered a slower full toss. Abbott, going on his knees, smashed the ball into the stands. The fan's attempt to catch the ball resulted in it slipping right through his hands, hitting him squarely on the face. The impact shattered his sunglasses and caused bleeding from his cheek

“That’s big, that’s very big, it’s into the members. Sean Abbott, the strength of the man. Has it taken a head? I think it might have,” Kerry O’Keeffe said while commentating on Fox Cricket.
“I think someone has taken one, you’ve got to keep a look out when the white ball is flying around at the SCG, that’s a powerful blow,” Adam Gilchrist responded.
“Oh that is nasty, the hands were in position. There’s a bit of a claret there, hopefully that chap is okay because he’ll be needing a bit of treatment.”
