AB de Villiers Was In Line To Play 2020 T20 World Cup: South Africa Skipper Quinton de Kock

Speculations were rife that AB de Villiers was likely to come out of retirement and play for the Proteas in the 2019 ICC World Cup in England last year, but he could not make the South African team as the squad for the marquee event had already been selected

South Africa's ODI skipper Quinton de Kock on Monday revealed that former Proteas captain AB de Villiers was very much in the national team's scheme of things for the 2020 ICC T20 World Cup, which has now been postponed by the ICC on account of the coronavius pandemic. Speculations were rife that AB de Villiers was likely to come out of retirement and play for the Proteas in the 2019 ICC World Cup in England last year but he could not make the South African team as the squad for the marquee event had alread been selected "He was definitely in line. If fit, I would have loved to have AB de Villiers. I think any team would have loved to have AB de Villiers in their team. While we were pushing for him, now we will have to see when the T20 World Cup is going to happen now," Quinton de Kock said on Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected’. De Villiers bid farewell to a glittering international career in 2018 after representing South Africa in 114 Tests, 228 ODIs, and 78 T20Is for over a decade. AB has made a comeback of sorts to competitive cricket as he signed up for the Eagles in the 3TC Solidarity Cup tournament which recently concluded in South Africa. The batting wizard turned the clock back and produced a stellar display of his sheer batting prowess with a whirlwind half-century to power the Eagles to the gold medal in the 3TC Solidarity Cup in Centurion. Quinton de Kock opened on the concerns of being an international captain, apart from his keenness to be a part of the IPL. De Kock also added that he was satisfied with the white-ball captaincy and was not fervent to take over the South African Test captaincy. "I think it is to much work, to be honest. I have to be the wicketkeeper, go up in the batting order. Captaining all three formats, in general, takes its toll. I don’t think I am the guy who can lead all three teams. I think I am pretty happy with T20s and ODIs," De Kock added.
