Cricket West Indies Thanks BCCI As Caribbean Players Reach Home Safely After IPL 2021 Suspension

Cricket news: The 14th season the cash-rich IPL 2021 had to be suspended indefinitely by the BCCI on May 4 after multiple Coronavirus cases were reported inside the IPL bio-bubble.

Cricket West Indies CEO Johnny Grave has informed that all nine West Indies cricketers competing in the currently indefinitely suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, have arrived home safely following dedicated efforts by their respective franchises and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The 14th season the cash-rich T20 League had to be suspended indefinitely by the BCCI on May 4 after multiple Coronavirus cases were reported inside the IPL bio-bubble which wasn't as foolproof as last year's IPL in United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Cricketers Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Jason Holder, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran and Fabien Allen were a part of IPL 2021 in India.

"Our IPL players, along with the West Indians who were part of the TV production, are now safely back in the Caribbean. We are grateful to the BCCI and IPL Franchises for arranging their safe travel back to the Caribbean so quickly," Cricket West Indies tweeted.

All overseas players have left India, except for Chennai Super Kings' batting coach Michael Hussey and Kolkata Knight Riders' Tim Seifert. Both are infected with the dreaded Coronavirus (Covid-19).

After suspension of IPL 2021, BCCI arranged chartered flights for the overseas staff members and cricketers to quarantine in Maldives.

Amid surge in Covid-19 cases in India, Australian government banned incoming flights from India till 15 May. This is the reason why Australian players are under quarantine in Maldives instead of returning home immediately.

Meanwhile, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, in an interview, confirmed that there are no signs of IPL being hosted any time soon.
