India Clinch Gold At Archery World Cup 2024: Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav were the history makers for India as they clinched a historic gold after 14 years.

India Clinch Gold At Archery World Cup 2024: Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav of the Indian men's recurve team pulled off a splendid performance to stun the reigning Olympic champions South Korea and bag a historic Archery World Cup gold medal. This marks a significant achievement as it happens to be the country's first Archery World Cup gold in this event 14 years. In addition, India's gold medal boosts their chances of securing a berth at the forthcoming Paris Olympics.

The Indian trio kept their calm and held on to their nerves in a high-pressure contest and ended up beating Korea without dropping a single set. It is pertinent to note that 40-year-old army man Tarundeep was previously also part of the gold-medal winning team in the Shanghai World Cup Stage 4 in August 2010. When India last won the gold at the Archery World Cup, it was a team comprising Rahul Banerjee, Tarundeep and Jayanta who beat Japan.

In essence, India vs Korea was a battle between the top-two seeds of the tournament which India ultimately wining 5-1 (57-57, 57-55, 55-53). The victory takes their gold medal count to five in the season-opening Stage 1 World Cup. The success off the Indian Men's recurve team seemed to have inspired the Indian recurve mixed team comprising Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj who trounced Alejandra Valencia and Matias Grande of Mexico 6-0 (35-31, 38-35, 39-37) as they clinched a bronze medal.

Deepika Kumari Settles For Silver Medal In Archery World Cup

Deepika Kumari, who marked a comeback to competitive sport after a maternity break, faltered at the final hurdle and had to settle for a silver medal in the women's recure individual section. Kumari, a former world number 1, had started from the bottom after qualifying as the 30th seed. She eliminated two Koreans on her way to the finals, beating in the quarterfinal and the semifinal.

In the summit clash, Deepika succumbed to a defeat against the Asian Games champion Lim Sihyeon in straight sets 6-0, losing 26-27, 27-29, 27-28. She did not have a pretty good start in the title round while her second arrow landed in the seven-point red ring. In contrast to the experience of Deepika, her 20-year-old opponent only dropped one point to take the second set and won the gold medal.
