On the last day of the Shukla Paksha of Ashadha month, the Moon is positioned in the Purvashada Nakshatra. Hence, the day is known as Ashadha Purnima.
This auspicious day holds great religious importance and is dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. As per sacred beliefs, it is also the birth anniversary of Maharishi Ved Vyas, the revered sage who authored the epic Mahabharata and organized the Vedas. Therefore, the day is also celebrated as Vyas Purnima or Guru Purnima, a day to honour spiritual and academic teachers.
