Sindhi Teej 2025 — Know Date, Significance, Rituals And All About The Teejri Vrat

Teejri Vrat is a significant cultural and spiritual celebration in the Sindhi community, reflecting deep-rooted traditions of devotion, hope, and blessings.

In Hinduism, three major Teej festivals are observed annually—Hariyali Teej, Hartalika Teej, and Kajari Teej. Similarly, in the Sindhi community, a special fast known as Teejri or 'Teejri Vrat' is celebrated with great devotion, much like Karwa Chauth.

When Is Teejri Vrat 2025?

The Teejri Vrat is observed on the third day (Tritiya) of the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon) in the month of Bhadrapada, three days after the full moon of Shravan. In 2025, this auspicious day falls on August 12. On this day, married Sindhi women apply mehndi (henna), adorn themselves with solah shringar (16 traditional adornments), and offer prayers to Teejri Mata.

Significance Of Teejri Vrat

Like Hariyali Teej and Karwa Chauth, Teejri Vrat is a strict fast observed by married women who refrain from both food and water to pray for the longevity, health, and prosperity of their husbands. Unmarried women, especially those whose marriage is fixed, also observe this vrat in hopes of being blessed with a suitable life partner. It is believed that those who observe this vrat are granted happiness, prosperity, and marital bliss.

Rituals And Puja Vidhi Of Teejri Vrat

  • Musag: Women begin the day by cleaning their teeth using a traditional herb called musag.
  • Asur Ritual: Similar to the sargi ritual in Karwa Chauth, women consume asur—a pre-dawn meal consisting of lol (a thick sweet flatbread made from jaggery or sugar), sweets, rabri, and koki (a Sindhi sweet bread).
  • Tikano Visit: Women visit the tikano—the community prayer place—where they offer prayers. A clay pot with sprouted wheat or a mango sapling is worshipped here. Devotees offer sweetened water, tulsi leaves, and carrot pieces as part of the ritual.
  • Teejri Mata Puja: In the evening, women dress up traditionally and perform aarti and recite the Teejri vrat katha (story).
  • Chandra Arghya: After moonrise, offerings including raw rice, raw milk, sugar, and cucumber are made to the moon while chanting the traditional phrase:
    “Teejri aaye, Khumbra vesa kare,
Aayo jo goriyo, lotiyo kheer bhare.”
  • Vrat Parana: The fast concludes with a meal of satvik (pure vegetarian) food after moon worship.

Why Is Teejri Mata Worshipped?

Teejri Mata is considered a symbol of fertility. On this day, women sow wheat or moong seeds, which, upon sprouting, are seen as auspicious signs. It is believed that worshipping Teejri Mata not only ensures a long and healthy life for the husband but also blesses the woman with fertility and maternal joy.
