In 2025, Lohri will be celebrated on Monday, January 13. The festival falls during the month of Pausha and is traditionally observed on January 13 each year. On this day, people light bonfires in the evening and offer revdi, til (sesame seeds), gur (jaggery), peanuts, and maize to the flames. This is followed by seven circumambulations (parikramas) around the fire, accompanied by prayers to seek blessings from Agni Devta (the Fire God). During the rituals, traditional Lohri songs are sung to add to the festive spirit. The auspicious moment of Makar Sankranti in 2025 will occur at 9:03 AM on January 14.

Significance Of Lohri 2025:

Lohri holds immense cultural and agricultural importance as it signifies the harvesting of Rabi crops. It marks the end of winter and the onset of spring. On this day, people worship the Sun God and Agni Devta, expressing gratitude for a bountiful harvest. Lohri is also symbolic of the hard work and prosperity of farmers.

One of the key highlights of the celebration is the singing of the traditional folk song “Dulla Bhatti Wala”, which commemorates the heroics of the legendary Punjabi figure who helped the poor and rescued girls from injustice.

In Punjabi and Sikh families, the first Lohri after a wedding or the birth of a child is celebrated with great pomp and grandeur. Families and friends come together to sing, dance, and rejoice to the beats of traditional dhol and drums, making it a memorable occasion filled with warmth and joy.
