Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2024: After a four-month period of yogic rest, Lord Vishnu will awaken on November 12, marking the end of the pause on auspicious ceremonies. In the Hindu calendar, 19 days in November and December will be considered favourable for weddings before the beginning of Kharmas, during which no auspicious events take place until Makar Sankranti in mid-January.

According to the experts, Dev uthani Ekadashi, falling in the Hindu month of Kartik, heralds the resumption of auspicious events like weddings. This year, nine favourable days for weddings in November and ten in December will follow Dev uthani Ekadashi, marking the end of a 123-day pause on such ceremonies. According to the Hindu calendar, Ekadashi Tithi begins on November 11 at 6:46 p.m. and ends on November 12 at 4:14 a.m. Observing the Udaya Tithi (sunrise date), the Devuthani Ekadashi fast will be held on November 12.

Devuthani Ekadashi on November 12 signals the start of the wedding season, with significant auspicious dates for marriage in November and December. Tulsi and Shaligram’s symbolic marriage on this day also reopens the calendar for auspicious occasions. Following Lord Vishnu’s period of rest, these ceremonies had been on hold since July.

Kharmas Begins On December 16:

After Devuthani Ekadashi, favourable wedding dates are available until December 16, when the Sun enters the zodiac sign of Sagittarius, beginning Kharmas, a period during which auspicious events are halted until Makar Sankranti on January 15, 2025. With the Sun’s entry into Capricorn on this date, Kharmas will end, allowing for the resumption of weddings and other ceremonies.

Special Auspicious Dates:

In addition to regular dates, November 22-23 and December 9-10 are considered especially auspicious, offering the entire day and night as ideal wedding times. December 14 is suitable for weddings only during the day, as Kharmas begins after sunset, prohibiting auspicious events.

Significance Of Auspicious Timing:

In Indian culture, weddings held on auspicious dates are believed to bring positive energy and harmony. The practice of consulting astrologers to determine auspicious dates, or muhurat, is widely observed to ensure a successful marriage, as it is believed that marriages held without favorable timing may face challenges.

Auspicious Wedding Dates In 2024:

November: 16-18, 22-26, 28 (9 days)
December: 2-5, 9-11, 13-15 (10 days)
