Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has been appointed as the acting president by outgoing leader Gotabaya Rajapaksa and has declared a state of emergency in the country. Ranil Wickremesinghe has told the military to "do whatever is necessary to restore order" after protesters stormed his office.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has fled Sri Lanka on a military jet, amid mass protests over the island's economic crisis. The country's air force confirmed the 73-year-old flew to the Maldives with his wife and two security officials. In his absence, he has appointed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as acting president.

The war of words between former US President Donald Trump and Elon Musk heated up on Wednesday, with the Tesla and SpaceX CEO posting a meme on Twitter showing two photos depicting "Hate Elon" and "Hate Trump" buttons. The meme depcited a man with "Far Left" written on him and looking utterly confused as he checks out the two options. However, the tweet was deleted shortly from the platform.

Former vice-president Hamid Ansari hit back at the allegations that he had invited a Pakistani journalist, who claimed to have spied for Pakistan's spy agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and said a "litany of falsehood" has been unleashed against him by sections of media and a BJP spokesperson. He also refuted the allegation by the BJP, citing comments of a former RAW functionary, that he had compromised national interest as India's ambassador to Iran.

People in the age group of 18-59 years will get free Covid-19 precaution jabs at government vaccination centres, under a 75-day special campaign that is likely to begin from July 15, news agency PTI quoted official sources as saying. As per the report, the main objective of the drive is to boost the uptake of precaution doses and it is being held as part of the government’s Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to mark the 75th anniversary of India's Independence.

Congress leader Ajoy Kumar on Wednesday evening sought to clarify his comments about Droupadi Murmu - the presidential candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led ruling National Democratic Alliance. "I've always said Murmu is a good woman... issue is with (the) NDA's views... that is what I commented on," Kumar, a former Lok Sabha MP from Jharkhand.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Tuesday expressed hope that protests by aircraft maintenance technicians (AMTs) of low-budget air carriers IndiGo and Go First who continue to remain on sick leave against their low salaries will end shortly. The aviation regulator also said that it is closely monitoring the situation, adding it hopes the situation will improve soon.

Opposition presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha on Wednesday said that if he is elected, he will ensure that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is not implemented. Interacting with opposition lawmakers of Assam, Mr Sinha said the BJP-led government has not been able to implement the CAA so far as it was "foolishly drafted" in a hurry.

A special court in Mumbai on Wednesday allowed the plea of Aryan Khan, actor Shah Rukh Khan's son, seeking the return of his passport. Aryan got a clean chit from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in the Cordelia cruise drugs case in May this year. Aryan Khan had submitted his passport before the court as part of his bail conditions. He was arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in October 2021 and was in judicial custody for 26 days. The agency later gave him a clean chit as it could not find sufficient evidence against Aryan Khan and the five others.

Internet Movie Database (IMDb) has released the list of top 10 Indian movies and web series of 2022 so far. 'The Kashmir Files', 'RRR', and 'KGF: Chapter 2' are among the films included in the list. In the top 10 films list, Vikram, starring Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupati and Fahadh Faasil, tops the list with 8.8 rating followed by Yash starrer KGF Chapter 2 (8.5) and filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files (8.3).

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan suffered a knee injury while shooting a long-running sequence in the film "Laal Singh Chaddha". During the shooting, when Aamir started doing a long-running sequence, his knee was injured and he had to undergo physiotherapy. But still he refused to give up and took pain killers to avoid any kind of pain while he was running.
