One primary motive of demonetisation was to stop the circulation of fake currencies in the country but according to latest data from the National Crime Records Bureau, more than 6 lakh fake notes have benn identified in the Indian market between 2016 - 2022. The NCRB data also claims that the volume of fake notes have increased from 2.81 lakh crore to 8.34 lakh crore between 2016 - 2020. So is there a rise in the circulation of fake currencies in the country ?
