1.  The Sri Lankan government which is going through its worst economic crisis will need arounf $5 Billion in the next in the next six months to to maintain basic standards of living, including some $3.3 billion for fuel imports.

2. Life in Beijing will take a step closer to returning to normal Tuesday, as the capital rolls back Covid-19 restrictions having previously declared the latest outbreak of the virus was under control.

3. Russia has begun turning over the bodies of Ukrainian fighters killed at the Azovstal steelworks and is advancing towards  Severodonetsk.

4. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson vowed late Monday to plough on with governing after winning what he called a "convincing" victory in a Conservative confidence vote, despite a sizeable rebellion.

5. The United States and Europe urged Russia on Monday to stop alleged sexual violence by its army and proxies in Ukraine.

 

National headlines :-

1. In an ongoing row over controversial remarks of a BJP leader Nupur Sharma against the Prophet Mohammad, several countries including Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Bahrain and Afghanistan condemned the leader's remarks. 

2.  Hyderabad police on Monday filed two cases against a couple of YouTubers for allegedly uploading a video clip of Jubilee Hills gang rape victim and thus revealing her identity in violation of Supreme Court guidelines. Cybercrime wing registered the cases and took up investigation.

3. As the gang rape of a 17 year old teen in Hyderabad continues to make headlines around the country, four more rape cases of minors have been reported in the city.

4. The Indian state of Thiruvananthapuram confirmed two cases of Norovirus on Monday. 

 

Pop culture and sports updates :-

1. -Series and Reliance Entertainment along with Match Cut Productions launch the first song DHOOP PAANI BAHNE DE from their film, 'Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga', possibly the last film song sung by the late legendary and versatile singer KK. 

2. Bollywood actor Sonakshi Sinha announced her relationship with Zaheer Iqbal.

3. The Indian Railway Ministry on Monday took to Twitter to announce Shreyas Hosur, a 2012-batch Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS) officer, successfully completed the toughest single-day sports event in the world -- "The Ironman Triathlon" -- on Sunday in Germany's Hamburg. 

 

Clear cut explainer on the history, safety and government initiatives for Kashmiri Hindus :-

1. After the abrogation of article 370 on 5th August 2019, Home Minister Amit Shah had said that the government's main motive is to end organized terrorism in the valley. 

2. According to numberrs collected from the safe homes set up for the displaced people of the valley, around 44,167 families were forced to flee the valley in 1990 because of the ongoing cruelty and targetted killing of minorities. 

3. In 2015, the government had stated in Lok Sabha that around 62,000 Kashmiri Hindu families had left their homes behind. 

4. On 17th March 2020, the Minister of State for Home Affairs Mr G Kisan Reddy had stated the number to be around 64,951.

5.  The government had declared a monthly help of Rs 500 to all the displaced families. Currently, all the displaced Kashmiri families get a sum of Rs 13,000 as compensation.

6. The Congress party had declared to set up 5242 colonies with 2 room appartments for the Kashmiri expatriates in Urkhu, Muthi, Nakrota and Jagthi. 

7. In 2008, the government had promised a sum of Rs 7.5 lakh to the families to build or reconstruct their homes, but according to media reports, this initiative by the Congress couldn't see the light of the day.
