Renault Kiger: The Kiger has a relatively smaller 1.0 three-cylinder turbo petrol engine (there is also a cheaper non-turbo variant) which delivers more efficiency over other petrol SUVs. The official figure is 20kmpl for the Kiger turbo manual while the CVT would be a bit lower. Still, it's a great package for the price and also for the mileage it gives. While being compared on the basis of its styling as well as the space being given inside, the Kiger ticks many boxes. It also gives AMT as well as CVT options for the car buyer. The just-launched Kiger is also the most affordable SUV currently.

Nissan Magnite: The Magnite is based on the same platform as the Kiger and also shares its engines hence the mileage figure is the same 20kmpl for the Magnite Turbo petrol. There is also a non-turbo variant but we recommend the turbo petrol manual for its enhanced torque. The Magnite has taken off well in our market due to its style as well as value in terms of space or even the price it sells at. Currently, the Magnite has a high demand for nearly all variants with its fuel-efficient 1.0 variant, in particular, being a tempting choice for any potential hatchback owner.

Kia Sonet: The Sonet offers you two petrol engines and also including a non-turbo 1.2 and also the 1.0 turbo. The non-turbo unit and the turbo iMT (clutchless manual) are both quite efficient with 18kmpl plus expected mileage. The DCT variant of the 1.0 turbo is also efficient with an 18kmpl plus figure. However, the figure you get also depends on the way you drive so real-world figures might vary a bit. Overall, the Sonet offers you premium features and also a stylish design that seems to have caught the fancy of car buyers. It also currently offers you one of the best features in its class (cooled seats) and that along with the overall design, makes this a good choice.

Hyundai Venue: The Venue, like the Sonet, comes with either a 1.2 petrol and a 1.0 turbo unit with manual, iMT and DCT combo. Like the Sonet the mileage figure officially is 18kmpl plus. While in the real-world, expect a bit less depending on the driving conditions. That said the iMT (turbo-petrol) version seems to be the best for its mileage/power. The Venue also offers a high features list and a good combination of space along with design. It gets special features like paddle shifters as well, which is unique for its class. A proven product that still sells in huge numbers.

Maruti Brezza: The Brezza has the biggest engine for a naturally aspirated motor but on the other hand, it does not get turbo petrol. However, like any Maruti, it is amongst the most efficient SUVs in its class. The automatic is the more efficient one as it gets fuel-saving technology, unlike the manual. That said the manual is also pretty efficient too. The official figure is 18.7kmpl for the automatic and that's quite good. While the Brezza might lack outright features or a turbo, the proven package and Maruti sales network means it is still a very good buy.
