International Court Of Justice To Give Judgement In Ukraine Vs Russia Case On Wednesday

Moments after Russia started offensive against Ukraine on February 24, Kyiv approached the ICJ demanding the tribunal to order an end to the offensive.

New Delhi: Amid rising conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) will give a judgment Wednesday on charges made by Ukraine against Russia, reported news agency AFP.

Moments after Russia started offensive against Ukraine on February 24, Kyiv approached the ICJ, top UN court, demanding the tribunal to order an end to the offensive. In it's appeal, the Ukrainian authorities said that Russia falsely justified its attack by accusations of genocide.

As reported by AFP, Ukraine has accused Russia of illegally justifying its invasion by alleging Ukraine committed genocide in regions occupied by pro-Russian separatists.

On March 7, Russia had failed to appear before the UN court in a hearing.

The conflict that started with Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24 has already claimed 1,700 lives, a latest UN report stated. The death toll is expected to rise further as Russia has stepped its offensive in several Ukrainian cities.

On Monday, Russian forces damaged 104 hospitals out of which 7 were completely destroyed, reported news agency ANI citing Ukrainian media.

Russia denied the claims and said that it is only targeting military installations in Ukraine and that the civilian population is safe.

Meanwhile, fourth round of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine held on Monday was inconclusive. The talks will resume Tuesday, where Kyiv will demand an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of Russian troops to end the fighting that is raging for more than two weeks.

Western countries have imposed severe sanctions on Russia to force Moscow to end the war. They have also imposed sanctions on Belarus for supporting Russia's operation in Ukraine.
