Queen Elizabeth II Last Rites Live: The United Kingdom’s longest-serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II will be laid to rest today in a grand State Funeral which will take place at Westminster Abbey in London on September 19 at 11 am local time, Buckingham Palace had announced on September 10. She passed away on September 8, 2022 at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland after reigning for 70 years.
Prior to the State Funeral, the late British monarch had been lying-in-state at Westminster Hall nearby for four days to allow the public to pay their respects.
Following the State Funeral, the coffin will travel in procession from Westminster Abbey to Wellington Arch in London for its onward journey to Windsor.
In Windsor, the State Hearse will travel in procession to St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, the monarch’s final resting place with her late husband – Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh
Elizabeth II became Queen on the death of her father King George VI on 6 February 1952. She held her coronation at Westminster Abbey the following year. Her reign of 70 years was seven years longer than that of Queen Victoria.
World Leaders Attending The State Funeral
Leaders from around the world will join the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey in London. United States President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will join the State Funeral from the Americas along with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro among others.
From Asia, President Droupadi Murmu, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, and President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan will be present at Westminster Abbey. Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif, Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina, New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern, and Australian PM Anthony Albanese among others will also attend the funeral.
French President Emmanuel Macron, President of Israel Isaac Herzog, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will participate in the State Funeral from Europe while South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will join the State Funeral with State heads from other countries.
Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan, King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah, Saudi Arabia's Prince Turki bin Mohammed al Saud, President of UAE Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark with Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary will join the State Funeral from Royal Families.
Queen's Coffin Reaches Westminster
The Queen's coffin reached Edinburgh on September 11 by road, at the Palace of Holyroodhouse to rest in the Throne Room until Monday afternoon. Thousands lined the route to catch a glimpse of Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin, seen in public for the first time.
A procession was formed on the forecourt of the Palace of Holyroodhouse to convey the coffin to St. Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh.
King Charles III and members of the royal family took part in the procession and attended a service in the cathedral to receive the coffin.
On September 13, the coffin travelled from Scotland by Royal Air Force (RAF) aircraft from Edinburgh Airport, arriving at RAF Northolt in England later that evening. It was accompanied on the journey by the Queen’s daughter, Anne – Princess Royal.
The Queen's Coffin was then conveyed to Buckingham Palace by road, to rest in the Bow Room.
On September 14, The Queen's Coffin was borne in procession to the Palace of Westminster for lying-in-state until the day of the funeral.

At around 3:08 pm BST (7:38 pm IST), Queen Elizabeth II's coffin, which was placed inside the state hearse, arrived at Windsor. The coffin will join a procession up the Long Walk to Windsor Castle.
King Charles III, and members of the royal family will join the procession before moving to St George's Chapel for the committal service.
The convoy with the hearse has arrived at Shaw Farm Gate in Albert Road, Windsor.

After Queen Elizabeth II's coffin arrived at Wellington Arch, the bearer party lifted the coffin from the state gun carriage and placed it in the state horse before the car left for Windsor.
There was a royal salute, and the National anthem of the United Kingdom was played. Queen Elizabeth II's coffin is being taken to Windsor.
