'We See Immense Potential In Development, Innovation': PM Modi Says After Meeting Austrian Chancellor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held talks with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer to deepen the bilateral relationship between India and Austria. Following the talks, PM Modi took to his X account to share about his "excellent" meeting with the Austrian Chancellor. He stated that the countries see immense potential in areas like infra development, innovation, water resources, AI, and climate change.

"Had an excellent meeting with Chancellor Karl Nehammer. This visit to Austria is very special because it is after several decades that an Indian Prime Minister is visiting this wonderful country. It is also the time when we are marking 75 years of the India-Austria friendship," PM Modi wrote on X.

PM Modi had landed in Vienna on Tuesday for his two-day visit to Austria, directed towards deepening bilateral partnership between the two nations and achieving closer cooperation on various geopolitical challenges.  

This visit marked the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in over 40 years. The last visit was made by Indira Gandhi in 1983.

PM Modi also stated that the two leaders had agreed to further cement the friendship between India and Austria across various sectors.

"There are several shared principles that connect us such as democracy and rule of law. In the spirit of these shared values, Chancellor Karl Nehammer and I agreed to further cement the India-Austria friendship across various sectors," PM Modi said.

He further stated that the countries are interested in exploring their partnership on various aspects other than the economic ties.

"Stronger economic ties naturally featured in our talks but we do not want to limit out friendship to only this aspect. We see immense potential in areas like infra development, innovation, water resources, AI, climate change and more," PM Modi said.

PM Modi received a warm welcome as he landed in Vienna from Moscow, where he had gone for a two-day visit.

He received a ceremonial Guard of Honour ahead of talks at the Federal Chancellery, where he also signed the guest book.

PM Modi and Karl Nehammer jointly addressed renowned Austrian and Indian CEOs at a round table business meeting in Vienna today.

"PM highlighted significant potential for collaboration between Indian and Austrian companies in various sectors including infrastructure, renewable energy, green sectors, new and emerging technologies, fintech, start-ups, innovation among others. He invited Austrian companies to invest in India," MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X, along with photographs from the meeting.
