'We Take Every Threat Seriously': Canada Probing Khalistani Terrorist's Videos Warning Not To Fly Air India
Canada has said that the federal police are investigating a warning in videos circulating online asking Sikhs to not fly Air India after November 19.
Days after Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) founder and designated terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun released a video message asking Sikhs to not fly Air India, Canada has said that the country takes every threat seriously, and the federal police are investigating a warning in videos circulating online asking not to fly Air India after November 19.
Canada's Transportation Minister, Pablo Rodriguez, has said that the country's federal police are investigating the warning issued in videos circulating online not to fly Air India starting November 19. "We take every threat seriously, especially when it concerns airlines," Transportation Minister Pablo Rodriguez told reporters in Ottawa," Rodriguez said, as quoted by AFP.
Speaking to reporters in Ottawa, Rodriguez said that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police "is doing the investigation". This comes after Pannun released a video message asking Sikhs to not fly Air india after November 19 claiming that could put their their lives in danger. "Sikh people, don't travel by Air India after November 19. Your life can be in danger," Pannun said in the video as reported by news agency ANI.
Reacting to Pannun's video message, India’s High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma told Hindustan Times, “We shall take up the threat against Air India flights originating from and terminating in Canada, with the concerned Canadian authorities.”
The developments took place amid an ongoing diplomatic tension between India and Canada over the killing of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudueau's remarks alleging a link of the Indian government to the killing. Even as New Delhi dismissed the allegations, the ties between the two countries were strained with expulsion of diplomats and visa restrictions by both nations.
