Viral Sach: Will Arvind Kejriwal go to jail after EVM demo?
New Delhi: A message is getting viral on social media claiming that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal may go to jail in connection with EVM demo inside Delhi Vidhan Sabha.
One of the messages read-"If the EVM machine shown in Delhi's Vidhan Sabha is original then Saurabh Bhardwaj must go to jail for stealing it. If the machine is not original then action must be taken for confusing the house."
What exactly happened inside Delhi Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday?
AAP's Saurabh Bhardwaj on Tuesday in Delhi Vidhan Sabha demonstrated that EVMs can be tampered by making changes in secret code.
"If elections continue to be done through these EVMs there will be no measure of democracy left. Only 1 party will rule," Saurabh Bhardwaj said and added "All it takes to rig an EVM is changing the motherboard. All it takes is 90 seconds. Outrageous".
Has the Kejriwal government broken rule in its effort to bring out the truth about whether EVMs can be hacked or not?
Interestingly, in 2010, an engineer Hari Prasad from Hyderabad was arrested for doing a demo on EVM. He also claimed at that time that EVMs can be hacked. There were allegations that he had stolen EVM.
But in present case, an action inside Delhi Vidhan Sabha come under privilege of the member(s) and this may be the very reason why Delhi government did a demo of EVM inside the place. Hence any legal action on the matter seems to be unlikely.
The viral messages about Arvind Kejriwal may go to jail is wrong.
