Twitterati baulk at "coconut shells" being sold by Amazon for more than Rs 1200; check reactions

New Delhi: Online retail giant Amazon has shocked a section of online customers by selling coconut shell at a price that the netizens cannot believe. The hard shells that are generally thrown away after sipping the water or scooping off the coconut flesh are being sold by a retailer for more than Rs 1000. A Twitter user shared a screenshot of coconut shell being sold for nearly Rs.1,300. As the issue caught hype on the internet, the e-commerce giant forwarded it to the concerned team internally for a review. Later the product was not found on the site, apparently  the team got it taken off. However, the pricing of the empty coconut shells did make many consumers baulk at it and even made them wonder who the target customer of the retailer would be. The product description claimed the cup to be made of natural real coconut. It read: “This is an actual, real, coconut. Therefore, it may have cracks, dents and imperfections." While there are wide varieties of coconut shell cups which are sold on the internet with proper finishing, this particular piece looked nothing else but a natural coconut shell. The user wrote: “wow. didnt know that the coconut shells cost this much. We normally use it to start a fire. Kids use it to make mannappam. (idli like things made of sand).” This is how people reacted to it:
