Tata Tiago AMT for petrol and diesel to launch in September
New Delhi: Zippy hatchback Tata Tiago, arguably the current best of the Tata fleet of cars, will now come with an AMT option mated to both its petrol and diesel engines. Segment-rival of the Tiago, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio is the other hatchback that comes with an AMT, while the Hyundai Grand i10 comes with an automatic transmission.
The Tata Tiago, with the AMT option, will be launched in the month of September. The technology will be same, as seen in the compact sedan Zest and the GenX Nano. Further, the AMT will also prevent the backward movement, with its crawl function, which will not require you to constantly keep stamping on the accelerator. The feature will also aid in easy driving in heavy slow moving traffic.
The Tata Tiago runs on both petrol and diesel engines. The 1.2-liter Revotron, 3 cylinder engine, of the Tiago, is a petrol engine producing 85 PS at 6000 rpm and 114 Nm at 3500 rpm. On the other hand, the Revotorq, 3 cylinder 1.0-liter engine is a diesel engine that produces 70 PS at 4000 rpm and 140 Nm at 1800-3000 rpm.
Despite the 85% demand for the petrol version of the Tiago over its corresponding diesel variant, Tata Motors will float an AMT option in both petrol and diesel engines. However, the AMT option will be available only on the XM Revotron (petrol) and XM Revotorq (diesel) engines, which are mid-range trims and are priced Rs. 3.90 lakh (petrol) and Rs. 4.70 lakh (diesel).
The Tata Tiago AMT model may come with a higher price than the current price of these mid-range trims. The AMT feature in the Tiago comes after Tata responding to the rising demand for automatic and automatic manual transmission options in cars.
