Royal Enfield Pulls The Plug On Continental GT 535

The cafe racer has been discontinued from both domestic and international markets due to falling sales numbers and the imminent arrival of the GT 650

Royal Enfield Pulls The Plug On Continental GT 535

While we are still waiting for the launch of the Royal Enfield 650 twins, the company has decided to pull the plug on the Continental GT 535 from both domestic and international markets. Showrooms across Pune have confirmed that the company has stopped the production of its cafe racer. However, interested buyers can still buy the last few remaining stocks of the motorcycle.

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 535 was launched in 2013 but didn’t turn out to be the runaway success its makers hoped for. This can be partially blamed towards it expensive pricing and lack of performance.

Now, considering the general public's rejuvenated interest towards retro-themed motorcycles and cafe racers, its replacement, the Continental GT 650, may have a smoother sail. It is also expected to attract a bigger customer base due to its new engine and rumoured competitive price tag.

Both the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 use the same air/oil-cooled 648cc, parallel twin engine, which generates 47.6PS of power at 7100rpm and 52Nm of torque at 4000rpm.

Royal Enfield has delayed the launch of the 650 twins in order to ensure quality standards and increase production capacity to avoid any delays in customer delivery. The twins will go up against the Harley-Davidson Street 750 and the Kawasaki Z650.
