PM Modi And UK's King Charles Hold First Talks, Discuss G20 Presidency, Climate Action

As this was PM's first conversation with him after he assumed the office of the Sovereign of the UK, PM Modi conveyed his best wishes to the King.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a telephonic discussion with Britain's King Charles III since the King expected the workplace of the Sovereign of the UK and wished the King a "very successful reign". According to the Prime Minister's Office, they spoke about a variety of topics of mutual interest during the phone call, including climate action, biodiversity conservation, and novel approaches to financing energy-transition, among others.

“It was a pleasure to speak with His Majesty King Charles III on issues of mutual interest, including environmental protection, climate resilience, and the Commonwealth. Also discussed the priorities of India's G20 Presidency, and the potential of Mission LiFE,” PM Modi said in a tweet.

During the call, a variety of topics of mutual interest were discussed, such as climate action, biodiversity conservation, novel financing options for energy transition, and so on. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for his abiding interest in these issues and advocacy.

The Prime Minister briefed King on India's G20 Presidency priorities, which included Climate Action, conservation of biodiversity, innovative solutions for financing energy transition, etc. He likewise made sense of the importance of Mission LiFE - Way of life for Climate, through which India looks to advance ecologically manageable ways of life.

The two leaders discussed the Commonwealth of Nations and ways to improve its operation. They also valued the Indian community in the UK's contribution to enhancing bilateral relations and serving as a "living bridge" between the two nations.
