New Hyundai Grand i10 Spotted In India

The third-generation i10 could debut a brand new platform that it might share with other small Hyundai cars

New Hyundai Grand i10 Spotted In India

The next-generation Hyundai Grand i10 has been spotted testing in India for the first time. The all-new hatchback is expected to debut in 2019, around 6 years after the debut of the Grand i10 a.k.a the second-gen i10 (03 September 2013). The 2019 Grand i10 was spotted alongside the Carlino-based sub-4m SUV (codenamed: QXI), which will be launched before it in April 2019.

The 2019 Grand i10 might be underpinned by a new platform, which it might share with other small Hyundai cars like the sub-4m QXI SUV. The new Grand i10 is expected to be bigger than the current model. Its arch-rival, the Swift, also has a larger footprint now.

The Grand i10 we get in India is slightly bigger than the Euro-spec i10, hence the word ‘Grand’ in its name. Hyundai might continue to keep the India-spec third-gen i10 bigger than the Euro-spec model.

The 2019 Grand i10 could take its styling inspiration from Hyundai's incoming AH2 entry-level hatchback a.k.a the new Santro. A bigger cascading grille compared to the current second-gen facelift model and sharper styling might then be the highlights of the 2019 model.

On the inside, the third-gen Grand i10 gets a freestanding touchscreen unit. We reckon it could be Hyundai’s latest 7-inch unit. It should continue to offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. We believe lower variants might also pack an infotainment system going forward. It could be Hyundai’s new 5-inch unit that also comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. We expect Hyundai to offers features like climate control, passive keyless entry, rear-view camera, that have become common on modern-day mid-size hatchbacks.

Mechanically, the Grand i10 might carry forward the current set of 1.2-litre petrol (75PS/190Nm) and diesel (83PS/113Nm) engines. A 5-speed manual could be standard. But expect Hyundai to offer an AMT option this time around with both engine options, like the Swift. Hyundai ’s in-house-developed AMT will debut with the Santro this October.

Expect the new Grand 10 to debut in the second half of next year. Like the first and the second generation, it might also be the world debut for the third edition of the Grand i10. The third-gen Grand i10 will be a part of the eight new models that Hyundai has lined up for India till 2020.
