More Powerful Bajaj V15 Reaches Dealerships

Christened as the V15 'Power Up', the new bike makes more power and torque and gets slightly revised graphics

A more powerful Bajaj V15 has reached a couple of dealerships in India prior to its official launch. Christened as the ‘Power Up’, it’s essentially a V15, but produces more power. So what’s changed? Bajaj simply added a bit of oomph to the bike by increasing its power output and tweaking its graphics. While the bike retains the same 149.5cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled motor, it now produces 13PS at 8000rpm and 13Nm of torque at 6000rpm. This translates to a power bump of 1PS and 0.3Nm of torque which is now produced higher up in the rev range compared to the outgoing version.

And that’s not all, as the bike’s gearbox also gets a different shift pattern. Rather than the conventional all-up shift pattern, the V15 Power Up features a sportier, one-down-four-up pattern. Besides this, the bike also gets slightly revised graphics to keep it fresh for the upcoming year. Though the graphics look similar to the previous iteration, it’s slightly wider and fades out towards the bottom.

But the mechanicals remain same as before. The Bajaj V15 continues to use a telescopic fork and twin gas charged shock absorbers at the rear, while a dual-cradle frame holds it all together. Braking duties are handled by a single 240mm front disc and 130mm rear drum unit. Although the bike misses out on ABS, we can expect Bajaj to offer this safety feature in the near future. Its 18-inch front and 16-inch rear alloys come wrapped in 90/90 and 120/80 rear tubeless tyres respectively.

These updates for the upcoming year also brings with it a slight price hike. The V15 Power Up is priced at Rs 67,187 (ex-showroom, Mumbai) and Rs 66,740 (ex-showroom, Pune), which is a premium of around Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,100 respectively over the outgoing model. A select few dealerships are already stocked up and have started accepting bookings for a token amount of Rs 500 to Rs 1000.
