Maruti Suzuki Likely to Launch two new Diesel Vehicles by 2014-end

India's leading car maker, Maruti Suzuki India is working on 2 new diesel models, which are expected to be launched by 2014-end. The engine to be fitted in these models are likely to be developed in-house for India to cope-up with the increasing demand for diesel vehicles, a report published on MoneyControl says.

Maruti Suzuki Likely to Launch two new Diesel Vehicles by 2014-end

Japanese auto major is already working on two diesel engines- a 1.0-litre and a 1.4-litre in Japan for the Indian market. The 1.4-litre diesel engine powered car could be positioned above the company's top selling compact sedan, Swift Dzire. The other vehicle under development is the 1.0-litre diesel engine, which will feature the company's future small car line-up. And if rumours are to be believed the smaller engine will house the company's top selling vehicles including WagonR, A-star and others.

MSI is currently sourcing the 1.3-litre Multi-jet diesel engine from Fiat, which does its duty to the company's flagship cars like Swift, Swift Dzire and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, as per a deal closed in Jan 2012. Maruti alone too is investing around Rs 1,700 crore to set up a diesel engine plant at Gurgaon to produce three lakh units a year. Nothing on the model names or body type has been confirmed, we expect a compact sedan and a small car powering the above mentioned diesel engines.
