Wedding Guest Shot Dead By Relative at Greater Noida Farmhouse: Police

A 55-year-old man was reportedly shot dead on Monday night at the Greater Noida property.

New Delhi: A man was murdered in a posh mansion in Greater Noida on Monday night. The deceased has been identified as Ashok Yadav, 55, a resident of Sector 51, Noida, who was at the private farmhouse in Greater Noida West to attend a friend's daughter's wedding, media reports said. The accused who shot him is said to be his son’s father-in-law, Chandrashekhar Yadav alias Shekhar Yadav, the reports said.

Shekhar, who was also a guest at the wedding, had fled the crime scene after the murder but was arrested on Thursday, Hindustan Times reported.

Ashok's youngest son is married to Shekhar's daughter. While the exact murder motive is not known yet, the HT report said police inquiry has found that the couple were going through a divorce, and that there was a conflict between the families because of this.

Quoting Suniti, deputy commissioner of police, Central Noida, the HT report said an FIR has been registered against Shekhar, his eight family members, and five unidentified persons, on the basis of a complaint lodged by Ashok’s eldest son Bhupendra Yadav.

"The suspect had fled the scene and was on the run. Multiple police teams were formed to arrest him and others named as suspects in the FIR,” Suniti was quoted as saying.

The report said Shekhar was nabbed from the Tigri roundabout in Greater Noida West on the basis of "manual surveillance and technical inputs".

According the HT report, the revolver used by Shekhar to shoot the victim was a licensed one and was recovered from him possession. "Shekhar owns a licensed double barrel rifle, the inquiry has found. The Greater Noida police have written to Ghaziabad authorities to revoke his gun licences,” the DCP was quoted as saying. A gun licence cannot be issued to a person with a criminal history.

The police said further investigations are on to ascertain the role of Shekhar's family members named by the complainant.
