Maharashtra: 5 Dead, Including 12-Yr-Old, 1 Missing As Building Slabs Collapse In Ullhasnagar
11 people have been rescued and sent to a nearby hospital for medical treatment while one is still feared to be trapped under debris.
Maharashtra: In a highly shocking incident, slabs of a residential building located in Ulhasnagar township in Thane district of Maharashtra collapsed on Saturday, leaving at least five dead, including a 12-year-old.
According to the latest input, 11 people have been rescued and sent to a nearby hospital for medical treatment while one is still feared to be trapped under debris. The chief of the regional disaster management cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation reportedly said that a search is on for a woman resident of the building who is missing.
News agency PTI quoted the officer saying that the incident occurred around 1.40 pm in the ground-plus four-storey "Manorama" building located in camp no 1, where a slab on the fourth floor came crashing down on other slabs and landed on the ground floor, trapping people in the process.
As soon as the incident came to notice of the authorities, a team of NDRF personnel, and a team from the Thane Disaster Response Force rushed to the site. Local firemen were also present at the scene to help remove the debris and rescue the trapped people.
Meanwhile, Ulhasnagar Tehasildar Vijay Wakore reportedly said that the matter is being investigated. The foremost priority is to get the debris cleared and carry out the search operations. Details like the year of construction of the building and the number of its occupants will be known later, the official said.
