Karauli Violence: Curfew Extended Till Thursday. Congress Forms 3-Member Fact-Finding Committee

Administration made arrangements for students of classes 10 and 12 to appear for their examination. Relaxation for two hours will be given to allow people to make essential purchases.

New Delhi: Curfew was extended till April 7 in violence-hit Karauli in Rajasthan on Monday considering the law and order situation, reported news agency PTI. 

Amid curfew, the district administration made arrangements for students of classes 10 and 12 to appear for their examination by showing their admit cards to reach the examination centre, the officials said, quoted by the news agency. 

"As the present circumstances are not normal for the law and order situation. In such a situation, curfew is extended till April 7 midnight," an order issued by Karauli District Collector Rajendra Shekhawat said.

The official further added that relaxation for two hours will be given to allow people to make essential purchases and any further relaxation will be provided considering the law and order situation. 

Mobile services too remained suspended in the district although no untoward incident has been reported, the official said.

Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure was imposed in the Karauli district following incidents of communal clashes and internet services were shut down from 6:30 pm on April 2 till 12 am on April 4.

 

Rajasthan Congress Fact Finding Committee 

The Rajasthan Congress has formed a three-member fact finding committee over the communal violence that broke out in Rajsthan’s Karauli on Saturday, reported news agency ANI. 

The Committee includes MLAs Jitendra Singh and Rafiq Khan and Karauli district in-charge Lalit Yadav as reported by the news agency. The panel is slated to visit Karauli and later submit its report to Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee. 

 

Communal Violence In Rajasthan’s Karauli 

Communal violence had broken out in Rajasthan’s Karauli on Saturday when a procession was being taken out on the occasion of Nav Samvatsar, the Hindu new year, through a Muslim-dominated area. 

46 people were arrested and seven detained for interrogation by the Rajasthan Police on Saturday after the incident. 

The Inspector-General (IG) of Police, Bharatpur Range, Prasanna Kumar Khamesra said, "After stone pelting took place during the procession in Futa Kot area Main Bazaar Karauli on Saturday, the police acted promptly and arrested 46 people and detained seven people for interrogation."

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had held a meeting on Sunday with senior officials regarding law and order situation in the state following the incident. 

The Chief Minister lashed out at the Centre for the violence and said that the Central Government should take responsibility and condemn for the communal violence in the state.
