Women Have Ownership Rights Of 2 Crore Houses Under PM Awas Yojana: Modi At 'Griha Pravesham'

The Prime Minister said that some political parties raised a lot of slogans to eliminate poverty but not enough was done to empower the poor.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched ‘Griha Pravesham’ of about 5.21 lakh beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin in Madhya Pradesh, via video conferencing. The ‘Griha Pravesham’ ceremony started at 12:30 pm.

The Prime Minister said that women too have the ownership rights of around two crore houses built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. “This right has strengthened the participation of women in making other financial decisions in the household. This is a matter of case study in big universities across the world,” news agency ANI quoted the Prime Minister as saying.

Modi said that in India, some parties raised slogans to remove poverty but did not work to empower the poor. "In our country some parties raised slogans to remove poverty but did not work to empower the poor. Once the poor are empowered, they have the courage to fight poverty. When the efforts of an honest government, efforts of a strong poor come together, poverty is defeated, the Prime Minister said.

Modi said that the Nal-Jal scheme has provided six crore families with pure water tap connections in their houses, news agency PTI reported.

The Prime Minister further said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has given around 2.5 crore houses to the poor, and that the last government -- the one before the BJP government -- built only a few lakh houses for the poor in their tenure. “Our government has given around 2.5 crore houses to the poor. Of these, two crore houses have been built in villages. In the last two years, despite obstacles due to Covid-19, the work didn't slow down,” he added.

“Be it the BJP government in the Centre, or the BJP governments in the states, walking with the mantra of 'sabka saath sabka vikas', all of them are working to empower the poor,” the Prime Minister added.

Modi said that the five and a half lakh houses built in villages under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana are not just a figure, but are the identity of the poor becoming empowered in the country.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was also present at the event.

A day before the event, the Prime Minister tweeted about the event and said that it is going to be a new dawn for the people of Madhya Pradesh.

“A new dawn is about to come in the lives of my rural brothers and sisters of Madhya Pradesh. Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, there will be 'Griha Pravesam' for about 5.21 lakh families tomorrow. I will get an opportunity to attend it through video conferencing at 12.30 pm,” Modi wrote.

“It has been a constant endeavour of the Prime Minister to provide a pucca house with all basic amenities to every needy family of the country and this marks yet another step in this direction,” a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said.

At the event, traditional celebrations using conches, lamps, flowers, and rangoli were organised in the newly built houses in Madhya Pradesh.
