Woman gangraped while house-hunting in Mumbai: 5 things we know

New Delhi: A 28-year-old married woman in Mumbai who was searching for a house in a slum cluster was allegedly gangraped by eight persons.
  • The shocking incident took place in Amboli close to Andheri on Monday night. The woman was searching for an accommodation along with her husband at Shyam Nagar slum. She was assisted by another woman.
 
  • The couple chose to stay at the woman's house after looking out for certain options. The victim was gangraped by 8 persons who barged into the house. She was raped in front of her husband who was tied up. The accused are in the age bracket of 20-25. One among them is still at large.
 
  • "After the incident, the woman and her husband reached Amboli Police Station to lodge a complaint. Police registered a case against eight persons, one of them had criminal records," Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Ashok Dudhe said.
 
  • A case has been registered against eight persons in this connection under relevant sections of the IPC with Amboli Police Station. One among them has a criminal past record. The families of the accused allege the men have been falsely implicated in the case.
 
  • The woman was admitted to a hospital and is stated to be stable, police said.
