Winter Session: Cracks In Opposition As TMC 'Disinterested' To Coordinate With Congress

Opposition parties are set to corner the government in the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament on issues of inflation, Chinese incursion, Pegasus spyware and farm laws.

New Delhi: With the Winter Session of Parliament around the corner, reports of cracks within the Opposition have come to light as Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) 'disinterested' in coordinating with the Congress.

However, a party leader told news agency PTI that TMC would cooperate with other opposition camps on various issues concerning people's interest.

Senior Congress leader and leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabh, Mallikarjun Kharge is scheduled to chair an opposition parties' meet on November 29 before the commence of Winter Session in which Mamata Banerjee's party is not likely to participate.

"We are disinterested in coordinating with the Congress during the winter session. Congress leaders should first coordinate among themselves. They should set their own house in order and then think about coordinating with other camps," a senior TMC leader privy to the party's decision told PTI on condition of anonymity.

"We will raise several issues concerning the people's interest and will coordinate with them. We most probably will not attend the opposition parties' meeting convened by the Congress," the leader added.

The leader also pointed out that Congress leadership lacks the determination to take on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Over the last few weeks, TMC leaders have been vocal about Congress' alleged failure to fight against the BJP.

The ties between Congress and the TMC reached a new low after 12 MLAs of the grand old party in Meghalaya, including former CM Mukul Sangma, joined Mamata's camp. Even in Goa, TMC is contesting both BJP and the Congress in upcoming Assembly polls.

Things deteriorated further after TMC's mouthpiece 'Jago Bangla' recently claimed that Banerjee, and not Rahul Gandhi, has emerged as the face of the Opposition against Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP at Centre.

Meanwhile, the Opposition parties are set to corner the government in the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament on issues of inflation, Chinese incursion, Pegasus spyware and farm laws. The session begins from November 29.

Rahul Gandhi had recently said that the party will raise the Pegasus snooping issue in Parliament adding that other issues such as inflation, fuel price hike etc will also be discussed.
