West Bengal: BJP Accuses TMC Of Murdering Party Worker In Kolkata, Amit Shah To Visit Victim's Residence

The deceased leader identified as Arjun Chowrasia (27), was a BJP Yuva Morcha activist.

New Delhi: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was found dead in north Kolkata's Kashipur Friday morning under mysterious circumstances, reported news agency ANI. The deceased leader identified as Arjun Chowrasia (27), was a BJP Yuva Morcha activist. The incident happened just hours before Union Home Minister Amit Shah was to visit the place.

The body of Arjun Chowrasia, was found hanging in Ghosh Bagan area inside an abandoned building, said the police as reported by news agency PTI.

"He was an efficient party worker. We found him dead this morning," said state BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya told PTI.

The BJP Bengal unit also tweeted, " Arjun Chowrasia, 27, BJYM Mondal Vice-President, North Kolkata was brutally slaughtered & hanged. This continuous slaying of opponent political workers highlights the demise of democracy in WB. 57 BJP workers were massacred in the last year. Humanity is smothered by the TMC! ".

The BJP has alleged the ruling TMC of carrying out the murder, which has been denied by the party.

Responding to the allegations, TMC MP Santanu Sen said, "The allegations against us are baseless. Let the police investigate the matter".

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to visit Chowrasia's house today and express his condolences to the family members. Shah also cancelled his grand welcome planned by party workers at the NSC Bose airport in Kolkata after hearing about the incident, said a senior BJP leader to PTI.

Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Kolkata is his first after BJP lost the Bengal election to Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress last year.
