Weather Update: Western Disturbance To Cause Heavy Rainfall In J&K, Light Rain In Delhi, Says IMD

The IMD has forecast heavy rain across J&K, Himachal, and Uttarakhand on January 24 and 25 due to a Western disturbance. From January 24 to January 26, Delhi will expect light rain and cloudy skies.

Over the past two to three days, minimum temperatures increased in a number of locations in the north and northwest. India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the Western Himalayan Region is expected to have a severe Western Disturbance beginning on January 23, and the northwest Indian plains are likely to experience it between January 24 and January 27. Over north India, no cold wave conditions are anticipated in the coming week.

The western disturbance lies as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir in the middle tropospheric level while in the lower troposphere, an induced cyclonic circulation is over southwest Rajasthan and its nearby areas. Jet stream winds of up to 130 knots are now present around Latitude 28°N over the Indian Region in the upper troposphere.

IMD Scientist SS Roy while talking to news agency ANI said, "Due to Western disturbance, heavy rainfall likely in J&K, HP&Uttarakhand on Jan 24&25. Light rain&cloudy weather likely in Delhi from Jan 24 to 26. There's dip in temp now, to continue for next 5 days. Towards the end of next week, min temp to rise&max temp to fall."

IMD in a press release stated: "Light isolated rainfall likely over Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh on 23rd and increase thereafter over the area with scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm activity during 24th-27th and over Delhi during 24th-27th January 2023."
