New Delhi: In yet another feat of bravery, Commandant of Indo-Tibetian Border Police (ITBP) completed 65 push-ups at 17,500 feet in Ladakh on Wednesday at -30 degrees Celsius.

In the video, Commandant Ratan Singh Sonal can be seen performing the push-up with such ease in the extreme weather conditions of Ladakh.

Just a week ago, the 55-year-old commandant had led a team of six mountaineers to the peak of Mount Karzok Kangri. This was the first-ever climbing of the 20,177 feet high mountain.

The team led by Sonal climbed Mount Karzok Kangri on February 20 where the minimum temperature is minus 40 degrees Celsius.

"This was the first-ever ascent to the Karzok Kangri. Team of 6 top-class mountaineers of the ITBP led by the ace mountaineer Commandant Ratan Singh Sonal scaled the 20,177 feet high peak which located in the cold desert of Ladakh," an ITBP spokesperson told news agency ANI.

"Enduring physical and mental toughness in extreme winters, the team did not use any special mountaineering equipment and support system and completed the ascent," added the official.

Indo-Tibetan Border Police was raised on October 24, 1962, after the Sino-India war for reorganising the frontier intelligence and security set up along the Indo-Tibetan border. The force was tasked to keep vigil at the stretch of the India-China Border comprising 3,488 Kms at altitudes as high as 18,800 ft.

In January, too, a video of an army soldier standing amid heavy snowfall in the valley guarding the nation won the hearts of netizens. Many such videos have gone viral demonstrating how the troops continue to perform their tasks in hostile weather conditions to protect the nation.
