'Have We Sought Proof Of Who Is Your Father': Himanta Sarma Attacks Rahul For Questioning Surgical Strikes

Addressing the gathering in Kichha, Himanta Biswa Sarma said Rahul Gandhi and former chief minister Harish Rawat are not for the welfare of India and Uttarakhand.

New Delhi: Addressing Bharatiya Janata Party's rally in poll-bound Uttarakhand, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma levelled several allegations against former Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

Alleging that the Wayanad MP sought proof of surgical strikes done by Indian forces, Himanta even asked: "Have we ever asked a proof of which father's son you are?".

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma shared a video of his speech delivered in Uttarakhand's Kichha today.

Addressing the BJP rally, he said: "Look at their mentality today, General Bipin Rawat who was the pride of Uttarakhand and the nation as well, under his leadership, India conducted a surgical strike in Pakistan. Rahul Gandhi then asked for proof. Have we ever sought proof of which father's son you are? What right do you have to ask for proof from the armed forces?"

"If the army says it had conducted a strike, then that's it. Why should there be a dispute regarding it?" he added, further questioning, "Did you not believe in Bipin Rawat? Do you not have faith in the sons of Uttarakhand working in the armed forces?"

Taking up the "proof" statement again, the former Congress leader once again asked: "Have I ever sought proof of whether you are really Rajiv Gandhi's son?"

He asked Rahul Gandhi to not "insult" the army personnel, saying that the nation is above all else.

Himata also criticised the principal opposition party over the COVID vaccination drive as he emphasised how India made the vaccines at the same time as US and Russia.

He alleged that Congress asked for proof even then: "When America made the vaccine, did you seek proof of that? When India makes something you ask for proof, when Pakistan and China make something you applaud it".

On Rahul Gandhi's recent statements cornering the Modi government on challenges posed by China, the Assam Chief Minister asked: "Why are you doing free advertising of China?"

Addressing the gathering in Kichha, he said Rahul Gandhi and former chief minister Harish Rawat are not for the welfare of India and Uttarakhand.

Alleging that they only live and die for their families, he pitched that leaders like Narendra Modi are rare who live and die for the nation.

Earlier, Himanta Biswa Sarma had hit out at Rahul Gandhi over his emphasis on India being a "union" of states, cultures, diversity, and more.

"India is far beyond just a union. We are a proud Nation. Bharat cannot be held hostage to your tukde tukde philosophy What is your problem with Nation, Nationality and Nationalism.? And hello- beyond Bengal, we North east exist," he had written.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi is yet to respond to the Assam Chief Minister's recent remarks targetting him.

Uttarakhand is scheduled for polls on February 14. The counting of votes will be announced on March 10.
