Uttarakhand: After Gas Leak, Over 20 People With Breathing Difficulties Taken To Hospital

According to authorities, the leak at the Azad Nagar transit camp in Rudrapur was caused by a broken pipe attached to a cylinder with a 40–50 litre capacity.

After becoming unwell as a result of a gas leak from a cylinder in Uttarakhand's Udham Singh Nagar district on Tuesday, more than 20 individuals were taken to the hospital, news agency PTI reported.

According to authorities, the leak at the Azad Nagar transit camp in Rudrapur was caused by a broken pipe attached to a cylinder with a 40–50 litre capacity.

Along with the police, SDRF workers also reached the spot and efforts were made to control the gas leak and seal the leaking cylinder. 

To prevent a worse tragedy, State Disaster Response Force workers relocated the cylinder right away to a woodland area, and those who complained of breathing difficulties were sent to the hospital, they added.

They said that the precise gas in the cylinder was yet unknown.

"Around 6.30 am in the morning, we got information about the gas leak and the team reached the spot in 15 to 20 minutes. The fire brigade, civil police and our team closed the leakage by putting sacks etc," Balram Singh Bajeli, in-charge of SDRF team was quoted by News 18 in its report.

"With the consent of the officials, the leaked cylinder was put in a vehicle and disposed of in the forest behind Sidcul. Earlier, due to the leakage, the crowd gathered there was removed and everyone was asked to wear masks. We do not know which gas is received," he stated.
