UP: Priyanka Gandhi Flags Off 'Pratigya Yatra' In Barabanki, Announces Congress' Key Poll Promises

Congress promises to reduce charge of electricity bills by half for all besides a full waiver of electricity bill dues for the COVID pandemic period.

New Delhi: Flagging-off ‘Pratigya yatra’ in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday announced some key promises of the party’s manifesto.

Congress’s Pratigya yatra is aimed at garnering support for the party from every part of the state ahead of the crucial 2022 Assembly polls.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra announced that the key promises of the Congress party’s manifesto are free e-Scooty and mobile phones for school girls, farm loan waiver, Rs 25,000 per year to poor families.

The party promises to reduce charge of electricity bills by half for all besides a full waiver of electricity bill dues for the COVID pandemic period.

“We will also give 20 lakh government jobs, MSP of Rs 2,500 for rice & wheat per quintal and Rs 400 for sugarcane per quintal,” Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

Earlier in the day, she interacted with women farmers at an agricultural farm in Barabanki.

Speaking on the purpose of her visit, Priyanka Gandhi said, “I want to understand their (women farmers') working conditions, how they are raising their daughters and if they are able to educate them”. 

Apart from Barabanki, the yatra will cover the two other cities of Saharanpur and Varanasi.

About Congress Party’s Pratigya Yatras

Ahead of upcoming Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Congress is set to hold statewide ‘Pratigya Yatras’ from October 23 to November 1. 

During these rallies, Congress will communicate its ‘seven pledges to the people in the state, apart from its election manifesto. 

The ‘Pratigya Yatra’ will cover 12,000 kilometres. Various press conferences, ‘nukkad sabhas’, temple visits, roadshows, Jan Sabhas etc will be held during the yatra, ANI reported. 

As per a report by IANS, a route has been prepared dividing the state into three parts.

The first route has been prepared from Awadh in Barabanki joining the districts of Bundelkhand till Jhansi, while the second route has been prepared for different districts of western Uttar Pradesh and the Brij region.

The third route has been earmarked for the Purvanchal region.

As the first resolution, Priyanka Gandhi announced to give 40 per cent tickets to women candidates from the Congress during the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and give smartphones to class 10 pass girl students and e-scooters to graduate girl students if the party comes to power in the state.
